18 June is the International Day Against Hate Speech. In this special session, we are holding a day dedicated to analysing the issue and exploring models for response and mitigation: we are stronger when we stand together.
Block 1: Legal perspective
Legal presentation by our resident lawyer, Adrián. What types of behaviour linked to hate speech are criminalised? What legal tools does a community have to defend itself against an escalation of hate?
Block 2: Structural elements and collective response to hate speech
Teamwork: through a tabletop simulation recreating influence operations that mobilised hate speech from the digital sphere onto the streets, we present in an educational manner the actors, the actions of a hate campaign and the countermeasures to mitigate and interrupt its reach.
Block 3: Strategies for the future
Team work: once a past operation has been broken down and analysed, we turn our attention to the strategy and organisation of future resistance, contributing situated knowledge drawn from our different realities and professional backgrounds.
About the facilitators:
Aldo Salgado: Combines digital research and technological development to activate community capacities for detection, documentation and response to influence operations, hate speech and coordinated threats. Open-source developer and researcher.
