The festes majors are a time to meet, share, and enjoy with friends and neighbors. The Canòdrom is getting ready for the festivities and sharing a table (of sound) with community projects from the Congrés and Indians neighborhoods, as well as with others we've collaborated with throughout the year. Together, we'll shape a new episode of Ràdio Canòdrom on October 3rd at 7:00 PM.
We’re opening the mics! Alongside the Xarxa de Ràdio Comunitàries de Barcelona, we will explore initiatives focused on the reconstruction of historical and collective memory, learn about proposals to address the climate emergency, and review the current state of digital rights. Among other topics, we’ll hear from neighbors who are collectively documenting the history of Congrés and Indians, people of all ages engaged in citizen science to measure the temperatures of the neighborhood’s streets, debates on ecology, technology, and democracy, and activists working for everyone’s digital rights.
The October 3rd Canòdrom podcast will feature members of the following projects:
Memories will be collective or not at all, and regarding the collective memory around the Canòdrom and its surroundings, we find the project Fem memòries(Opens in new tab) and the collaborative photo exhibition Ballant al ritme dels records(External link). Both initiatives take the history of the Canòdrom and the Congrés and Indians neighborhoods as a starting point, reconstructing memory through photographic recollections and shared conversations.
The climate emergency is a pressing issue that affects us all. The citizen science project Cròniques de la calor(External link) has invited neighbors from Congrés and Indians to participate in collective walks through the neighborhood as part of this Open Systems(External link) project, taking temperature readings from various streets and squares and sharing improvement proposals to address episodes of extreme heat. The Decidim Fest(External link), taking place next October, will focus on the relationship between Ecology, Technology, and Democracy, bringing together some of the most interesting voices to debate these topics in this annual gathering promoted by the Decidim(External link) association.
Digital rights are not a thing of the future; they must be fought for today to be achieved. Where are screens taking us? As part of the project Joves pantalles i acció!(Opens in new tab), the Canòdrom has launched a collaborative research initiative with students from the Institut l’Alzina(External link) to investigate the impact of daily screen interaction based on their own research questions. Similarly, FemBloc(External link) is a feminist project by Alia(External link) and DonesTech(External link) that works to prevent, detect, address, and repair digital gender-based violence through direct support, talks, dynamics, and workshops aimed at a future free of violence, including in the digital realm.
Thus, Ràdio Canòdrom returns with the second live podcast for the Xarxa de Ràdios Comunitàries de Barcelona, concluding with a celebration featuring live music from the band Km.0.
Organized by: Xarxa de Ràdios Comunitàries de Barcelona and Canòdrom.
