As part of 25N, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we are proposing a conversation on how digital spaces have become a setting for gender-based violence. Through dialogue and collective reflection, we will identify the different forms of digital aggression, such as harassment on social media, control through devices, and misogynistic hate speech. We will also explore their emotional and social impact, analyse how they relate to other, more traditional forms of violence, and focus on the importance of recognising these situations, breaking the silence, and promoting safer, more respectful spaces.
Together, we will open a space for reflection and offer practical tools and resources to improve digital protection, safeguard privacy, and know how to act in the face of possible situations of online violence.
The session will be led by Gemma Gómez Bernal, Celina Navarro, Luiz Peres Neto, Esmeralda Vázquez Tapia and Fernanda Pires, researchers and lecturers at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
