Evenings at the Río Cinema

🎙️ Collective documentation

The participants of the collective documentation fondly recall the evenings of cinema at the Río Cinema and the films they enjoyed. They mention that, in the past, the Río Cinema was a dance hall and that, when there were no dances, the space would turn into a boxing ring. A very popular sport in Barcelona at that time.

The Río Cinema had two entrances, one on Pinar del Río Street and the other on Matanzas Street. Two films were always offered in continuous session. They never stopped! Cinema-loving neighbors could spend an entire afternoon in the cinema hall. One participant adds that in the years leading up to its closure, as happened in nearby cinemas like the Rívoli and the Ducal, they began to screen films with lower budgets and category, categorized as "S genre."
