Memory is fragile when confronted with a hegemonic history that simplifies, turning complex processes into linear narratives of progress, leaving bodies, territories, and genealogies offstage.
In La fosa abierta (Anagrama), Brigitte Vasallo builds a memory without monuments that challenges two silences: that of the family history, shaped by gender-based violence, and that of political history, sealed by the dictatorship and the Transition. The book connects the dismantling of the rural, pre-capitalist world with the internal diasporas of “economic miracles”: energy and labor extractivism, factories by the rivers, forced territorial reorganization, and the displacement of bodies to urban peripheries. It is an artifact that not only recovers a silenced history but also questions who is allowed to narrate it.
This April, Brigitte Vasallo is a guest on Espores, Liquen Data Lab’s video podcast at Canòdrom. Live conversation with the audience, book signing, and an unhurried space for discussion. A moment to collectively question dominant narratives about progress, gender, and history.
Organized by: Marta Delatte and Canòdrom.
