Reimagining the city from the perspective of shade—not just when the next heatwave hits. The Department of Umbrology invites you to a new activation of Ombres sensibles in front of the Canòdrom. It is an open space for study, raising awareness, and debating adaptation and protection in the face of the climate emergency.
The day will feature ephemeral architecture prototypes, climate literacy workshops, opacity protocols, and a "Disputation in the Shade," where a proposed ordinance regarding the urban right to shade will be open for consultation. The goal is to center the importance of building genuine grassroots climate sovereignty starting from the shade.
Cities' responses to climate change cannot be merely reactive—triggered only when the sun is blazing or we are suffering through heatwaves. We must learn to think about our cities in terms of shade and its seasonal nature throughout the year—and perhaps, in the process, become a new kind of people: a people of the shadows?
Organized by: Departament d’Umbrologia (CareNet & DARTS, UOC; Arquitectura de Contacte; Nusos Cooperativa; Laboratorio de Pensamiento Lúdico) and Canòdrom
In collaboration with: Associació Contra el Càncer-Barcelona
