In a context marked by the proliferation of disinformation and fake news, science and data have become essential tools for strengthening evidence-based decision-making. Public policy cannot rely solely on opinions or intuitionit requires systems that incorporate scientific knowledge as a foundation for understanding the complexity of today’s challenges and responding in a rigorous, transparent, and effective way. In times of uncertainty, prioritizing evidence not only strengthens public policies but also helps restore citizens' trust in institutions.
This talk, featuring Josep Lobera and Izaskun Lacunza and moderated by Marta Cruells, will explore how to establish a structural and ongoing relationship between science and politics. Beyond one-off data points, we need a medium and long-term strategic approach that takes into account the social, environmental, and democratic impacts of decisions. It is time to rethink how public institutions can integrate scientific knowledge to anticipate risks, assess alternatives, and build fairer, more inclusive, and more sustainable responses.
