Changes at "Session 2 | Internet tour: a walk through invisible infrastructures"

Cuando abres una página web o envías un mensaje, ¿qué ocurre realmente? Internet no es una nube etérea. Son cables, cajas, edificios anodinos, playas y mares donde se entierran conexiones submarinas. Infraestructuras físicas que pasan desapercibidas en medio de la ciudad. Internet Tour es una ruta turística por los lugares que nadie visita. Los puntos por donde circula la Red.

Desde 2018 se han realizado paseos colectivos por distintos barrios y ciudades para hacer visibles estas arquitecturas ocultas, desde centros de datos en polígonos industriales hasta la arena de la playa, donde reposan los cables que conectan continentes. En esta edición, exploraremos los alrededores del Canòdrom para seguir el rastro de Internet hasta el equipamiento. Lo haremos con el artista visual Mario Santamaria, quien ha ideado el itinerario, y las arquitectas de Col·lectiu Punt6, tomando notas sobre cómo estas infraestructuras condicionan nuestra vida cotidiana. Documentaremos el itinerario y lo subiremos a la web para que cualquiera pueda replicarlo.

When you open a webpage or send a message, what is actually happening? The internet is not an ethereal cloud. It is cables, boxes, unremarkable buildings, beaches and seas where submarine connections are buried. Physical infrastructures that go unnoticed within the city. Internet Tour is a sightseeing route through places no one visits—the points where the Network flows.

Since 2018, collective walks have been organised in different neighbourhoods and cities to make these hidden architectures visible, from data centres in industrial areas to beach sand where the cables connecting continents come ashore. In this edition, we will explore the area around the Canòdrom to trace the path of the internet all the way to the facility. We will do so with visual artist Mario Santamaria, who designed the itinerary, and the architects from Col·lectiu Punt6 taking notes on how these infrastructures shape our daily lives. We will document the itinerary and publish it on the website so anyone can replicate it.
