Inhabiting a planet. Dialogue with Armen Avanessian

From a perspective that problematizes categories such as the Anthropocene, the Gaia hypothesis, and globalization (especially in its colonial dimension), Avanessian proposes the idea of planetarity as a key notion for thinking about our present. He develops it through a critique of hyper-anticipation and a study of deep biographical time, in order to conceptualize the progressive inscription of the planet’s geological and biological history into our individual and collective experience. His reflections point to a general conclusion: to think and inhabit a planet requires moving away from the idea of it as a mere stage for human action, since planetarity is an active condition that co-evolves with life and with technology.
